Workshops & training

Practical, neuroaffirming training for the people who support learners every day.

Delivered by a Board Certified Behaviour Analyst (BCBA), our workshops are designed for parents, education staff, early learning teachers and allied health professionals. Every session is grounded in neuroaffirming, trauma-assumed practice. And built for immediate use at home, in the classroom, and in therapy.

Format

Run as a single workshop or as a tailored series

Sessions can be delivered individually or grouped into a series, and tailored to your audience. Parents, classroom teams, allied health colleagues, or a mix. Every workshop pairs the concepts with hands-on practice.

Single workshop

A focused 60–120 minute session on a single topic from the catalogue below.

Tailored series

A sequence of sessions built around your team’s goals and the learners you support.

In-team facilitation

On-site or telehealth. For schools, early learning centres, allied health teams and parent groups.

Hands-on learning

Concepts in, practice out

Workshops aren’t lectures. Participants engage in practical activities that deepen understanding of behaviour and learning.

  • 1

Completing worksheets that translate concepts into practice

  • 2

Practising ABC data collection in realistic scenarios

  • 3

Experiential exercises that demonstrate the learner’s perspective

  • 4

Take-home strategies you can apply the next school or home day

Session topics

Pick what fits your team. Every topic can stand alone, and most teams benefit from sequencing them in the order below. Foundations first, then classroom application.

Foundations

Neuroaffirming Behaviour Support

Neuroaffirming Behaviour Support

Explore behaviour support through a neuroaffirming lens that respects neurodiversity and focuses on supporting rather than changing neurotype. Learn to interpret behaviour as communication and support individuals in ways that promote autonomy, dignity and wellbeing.

Understanding Assent

Learn the importance of gaining and respecting assent when working with children and learners. We’ll explore how to recognise assent and dissent, build cooperation, and create environments where learners feel safe and respected.

Compassionate & Trauma-Assumed Practice

An introduction to trauma-assumed practice and compassionate approaches to behaviour support. Learn how past experiences, stress and nervous system regulation can influence behaviour. And how supportive responses can improve outcomes.

Classroom

Enhancing Learning in the Classroom Environment

Prerequisites for Learning (“Learning to Learn” skills)

Foundational skills that support successful learning. Attending, following instructions, waiting, transitioning, and tolerating demands or denials. Strategies to build these skills gradually and support learners who may struggle with traditional classroom expectations.

Preschool Life Skills

A modified version of Greg Hanley’s Preschool Life Skills framework, focused on teaching essential social and emotional skills that reduce challenging behaviour. Communication, flexibility and tolerance taught in developmentally appropriate ways.

Understanding behaviour

Why behaviour happens

When to have conversations about boundaries

When and how to set clear boundaries while maintaining supportive relationships. Proactive conversations, respectful communication and creating predictable expectations for learners.

Functions of Behaviour

An introduction to the key functions of behaviour and how behaviour can serve a purpose for the individual. Learn how to identify whether behaviour may be related to gaining attention or connection, accessing items or activities, escaping demands, and/or sensory needs.

Responding

Responding to Behaviour

Building Cooperation Through Assent

Strategies to build cooperation without relying on compliance-based approaches. Creating shared goals, respecting learner autonomy and encouraging participation through supportive relationships.

Proactive Classroom Strategies

Strategies that prevent challenges before they occur. Visual supports, structured routines, clear instructions, breaking tasks into manageable steps, and appropriate reinforcement and motivation.

Reinforcement & Motivation

How to identify meaningful reinforcers and assess motivation to support engagement in learning. The role of external reinforcement when learning new skills, and how to gradually build intrinsic motivation over time.

Trauma-Informed Practice

Expanding trauma-informed approaches within education and therapy environments. How safety, predictability and connection can support learners who may have experienced anxiety, stress or trauma.

Regulation

Regulation & Emotional Support

Self-Regulation, Self-Compassion & Co-Regulation

How adults can support learners in developing regulation skills. Modelling calm responses, co-regulation and self-compassion as foundations for emotional development and resilience.

Regulation Strategies

Practical strategies to support regulation in learning environments. Movement breaks, sensory supports, predictable routines, and teaching learners to recognise and respond to their emotional states.

Communication

Communication Development

Building Communication Skills

How communication challenges can influence behaviour and engagement. Supporting functional communication so learners can express needs, preferences and emotions effectively.

Multimodal Communication

Different ways learners communicate beyond spoken language. Visuals, gestures, AAC and other supports. How using multiple communication methods can improve participation and reduce frustration.

This is not an exhaustive list of potential learning objectives. Please reach out if there’s a specific area of concern or interest for your population, and we’ll shape a workshop around it.
